November 2006 – Guide to Local Produce Boosts Economy
Eastern Shore Resource Conservation & Development Council is promoting
locally grown produce with a new “Grown on Virginia’s Eastern Shore”
guide. The brochure which lists 27 businesses, including two wineries is
attracting customers from as far away as Washington, D.C. The RC&D
partnered with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Eastern Shore
Tourism Commission to create and distribute the guide to hotels, visitor
centers, and restaurants.

October 2006- Cultural Heritage Drives Economic Development
Old
Dominion Resource Conservation & Development Council is using history to
increase the local economy through tourism. The Wilson-Kautz Driving Trail
offers historical interpretation at 26 Civil War sites in nine counties and the
City of Petersburg. In the fall of 2000, the RC&D provided funds from the
Virginia Department of Transportation to build the trail.
