Earth Team
Together We're Making History
Celebrating 20 Years  1985-2005

The Earth Team celebrated its 20th Anniversary during National Volunteer Week April 17-23, 2005.

Recognizing that many Americans, wanted to do their part to protect the environment, Congress passed a law allowing USDA agencies to use volunteers to them accomplish their missions.

Since 1990, nearly 8,000 Virginia Earth Team volunteers have contributed more than 300,000 hours to keeping our water and air clean, our land productive and improving habitat for wildlife.

In Virginia, Earth Team volunteers are invaluable.  They provide support to the NRCS workforce whenever and wherever needed--assisting with design and layout of best management practices, helping with data entry and programming, providing public information and teaching conservation education just to name a few.

It is appropriate that during National Volunteer Week, we salute the work of these energetic, talented and giving individuals.
